Love a great coffee and eating well? This café down by the Harbourside offers wholesome and healthy breakfast and lunch. Run by personal trainer and fitness expert Jen, Foundations Café is all about the food that’s good for you.

If you’re trying (and struggling like the rest of us!) to figure how to eat clean, healthy food that still get your taste buds tingling, Foundations Café is the perfect start for you. The menus aren’t extensive, but more than do the job. Breakfast options are packed with nourishing and tasty ingredients. Protein oats (£3.50) or waffles (£4.95) can be topped up with a selection of seasonal fruit, cacao nibs, walnuts, chia jam and dark chocolate flakes. Fancy toast is kitted out with a range of toppings £3.50. These breakfasts will get you going in the morning and keep you fuelled for the rest of the day.

The lunches are equally full of flavour, and designed by Jen to give you all the goodness your body needs. If it’s a January detox your after, Foundations have a delicious range of salads and sides (think hummus, falafel, basil tomatoes and mozzarella, cous cous, quinoa, pesto veg) to build-your-own lunch box, or pimp out a baked sweet potato.  These guys aren't trying to reinvent the wheel with their menu, but their belief is that a good diet doesn’t have to be boring, and their range of options should keep you interested for a fair few visits.

The interior is clean and comfortable, smart yet relaxed. Most popular among young working professionals, this is unlikely to be a classic student hang out, but if you’re down by the Harbourside and looking for a calm and quiet place to work, head to Baldwin’s Street and lay the foundations for a great day.
