IT’S ALL ABOUT LOVE
Yep, Love Saves the Day 2017 is official! Among the multitude of heavy hitters announced this year for LSTD, here is a little preview of who I’m looking out for this time around.
SATURDAY 27TH MAY
This 20-year-old really gets it. His knack for blending slow-paced drumlines, chimey piano chords, steel drums and echoed vocals makes each of his tracks a unique masterpiece and brings some well needed relaxed vibes to his sets. In a way he represents the spirit of the Bristolian: chilled out on the surface with a core of high energy ready to emerge when the time is right. Young and full of potential, Mura Masa is certainly one to check out.
If House/Techno is more your thing, then Solardo’s got you covered. Widely recognised as the new cool kids on the block, both producers have an extensive past archive of other styles and have teamed up to create some mind-blowing techno. Potent basslines, just the right amount of ‘thump’ and no high-pitch melodies in sight, if you appreciate strong, deep bass like I do, this will definitely be a no-brainer. My personal pick is the appropriately named ‘Psycho Girlfriend’, give it a listen.
We all feel good when Zed Bias is playing his garage, and there’s a bloody good reason: the music he puts out is always cutting-edge and unheard of in his genre. In fact, he actually defines the genre, pushing out new innovative rhythms on every release so I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us at LSTD.
SUNDAY 28TH MAY
Shy FX is a veteran when it comes to throwing a top notch party. Over his set he slowly builds up the speed and tempo in which his Jungle DnB sound truly shines, and then when he senses the crowd slowing down in energy he drops a slower, more soulful track like ‘Soon Come’ only to re-amp the atmosphere with something like ‘Original Nuttah’. Always attracting the best MCs compliment to his sets, he epitomises the spirit of the modern jungle raver.
Photographer by day and DJ by night, Hannah faith brings a fresh breath of air to the R&B/Soulful Electronica genres as a highly skilled musical scientist, yet her inspirations come from her relationship with positive energy and she aims to spread this to listeners through the quality of sound on her tracks. New to the scene she has made an impressive debut and I can’t wait to see her set at LSTD. Have a listen to her mix: HEIGHTS. This is what got me on board the Hannah Faith hype train.
By far my favourite on the line-up: seeing Kano is definitely a priority for me. The power of his live presence never fails to get the crowd hyped and remain hyped all day long, and his strong work ethic means he will give everything in his performance, just as he’s been doing for years. Man’s got bare tunes to play, man’s got the gal dem sippin Rosé (or Grey Goose if you’re Kano) and man’s gonna pray for T-shirt weather all day. The grime forefather is making his appearance at LSTD 2017 so the smart thing to do is roll down to Cloud 9 stage and enjoy the show.
